"Why should I use a PC?" you ask. The answer to this debate isn't so clear-cut. There could be solid arguments for either side. A little while back we posted a blog post Why Should You Use a Mac? for the one side of the story. But, we thought we'd argue in favour of PC for this post. So, here are our 10 reasons PCs are better than Macs.

1. Cost Effective

When a PC laptop or PC desktop computer is purchased, you get a lot more bang for your buck in terms of hardware. There are thousands of PC computers sold at thousands of retailers, therefore there is variation when it comes to price. Macs, on the other hand, almost have an universal price, meaning you're less likely to get a good deal.

2. Better for Gamers

The gaming industry is a huge industry. Computer games are becoming more advanced, and require a large amount of space and top-of-the-range graphics cards. For the price of a MacBook (which wouldn't be able to run the latest game titles), you can get a PC computer with the hardware needed to run modern games. Plus, there are many games that are not compatible with the Mac operating system.

3. Simple to Customise or Build

If you know what to do, a PC computer can be customized or even built from scratch without much trouble. Macs on the other hand, can't really be customised at all. This means for a relatively small amount of money, you can get a very powerful machine.

4. The Operating System

Some people prefer the Mac operating system, while other prefer Windows. Here's a metaphor to grasp the difference between the systems: iMac is like driving an automatic, while Windows is like driving a manual. You have more control over your device's processes when using a Window's computer. There are more settings to play with, and more small changes to make that will transform an average computer into a machine that performs exactly how you want it to.

5. Flexible Hardware

Unlike Macs, hardware in PCs can be changed and updated when you need. Installing a new graphics card, increasing your hard drive, or replacing hardware that isn't working are all things you can do. You could actually reassemble your PC with your own customized set of components. This kind of thing isn't possible with a Mac.

6. Customised PCs for Your Specific Needs

Flexible hardware = creating system that is ideal for your needs. Machines can be optimised for gamers, video editors, architects, designers, photo editors, and many more. Specialised components can be installed into a PC, meaning that you won't be wasting money from features you'll never use.

7. Security

Now by security we're not talking about security in terms of viruses, because sadly PCs are more susceptible. We mean security in terms of protection against failed innovation, drastic change, and the possibility of elimination of the operating system. Mac users tend to put all their eggs in one basket - the same company makes both their device and their operating system. If future Mac innovations fail, users will have to either grin and bear it or make the switch. Since there are so many PC computers, users will always have a choice of devices. Also, since the majority of computer users are PC, Windows is less likely to make drastic changes.

8. Cheap Support

Apple technical support is more expensive than Windows and PC support. When you buy a Mac product, 90-day phone customer support is free. Sure, the support is really good, but it lasts a short amount of time. After those first 90-days, you'll be paying for support. Plus, if your PC does break, you can get it fixed almost anywhere. Not all computer stores deal with Macs, and taking your device directly to Apple can be costly.

9. Less RAM is Required

Windows's virtual memory is more effective than Mac's. A PC running low on memory will run slow, but it will not break down. Meanwhile, a Mac running low on memory is much more. likely to crash. This means you need less RAM in a Windows computer to ensure its reliable.

10. Freeware

There is plenty freeware available to Windows users. For example, Download.com has over 55,000 programs compatible with PCs, and just under 5,000 for Mac.

So, why should you use a PC? Here's our list of 10 reasons to use a PC and why we think you could benefit from using a PC. You may disagree and have different opinions, which would make sense because overall there are many great computers out there.

We'd love you hear your opinion, feel free to leave your comment in the comment section below.
