It seems like these days we are always plugged in: every device must be wifi-enabled, your email blows up all hours of the day and smartphones are almost a necessity! Technology can make our lives easy and convenient, but you need to be smart! Here are 8 tech tips for the fall:

Make relevant updates.

Every few months, updates to smartphone operating systems can greatly improve your phone's productivity. Check to check if your phone needs a system upgrade.

Change your passwords.

It can be difficult to change the passwords for all of your accounts, but you must do so frequently for your security. Passwords should be kept in a secure location to reduce the complexity of the operation. Use a password manager to manage all your accounts.

Out with the old.

To make your computer run more quickly and effectively, delete any unnecessary documents. Apps for tablets and smartphones can also use this.

Clean up your social media accounts.

It would be wise to edit your LinkedIn profile, delete offensive posts, and untag yourself from those less favourable Facebook photographs right away. If you're looking for a job or internship, this is very crucial.

Back up your data. 

We never remember to back up our information until it’s already gone. Pick up an external hard drive to have in case of a tech emergency!

Be wary of location-based apps. 

Update your privacy settings.  The information you enter on location-based services can reveal a lot of private information. 

Get a backup battery.

App usage can drain battery power on mobile devices. If you find yourself relying on apps, make sure you have a backup battery in case the other one runs out of juice.
