You may recall us sharing a blog about a recent cyber attack on Canada's largest bookstore chain, Indigo.  Recently they confirmed that it was hit by a ransomware attack. The incident resulted in the theft of employee data, including names, addresses, and social insurance numbers.

While the company has taken steps to contain the attack and is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident, it is unclear whether any customer data was affected.

Ransomware attacks have become increasingly common in recent years, and they can cause significant disruptions to businesses and organizations. In such attacks, cybercriminals use malicious software to encrypt a victim's files and demand payment in exchange for the decryption key.

If your organization stores sensitive data such as employee information, customer data, or confidential business information, it's essential to have strong cybersecurity measures in place to prevent attacks. Some tips to keep in mind include:

  1. Regularly back up your data, both on-site and off-site, so that you can restore it if you're hit by ransomware or other attacks.

  2. Use multi-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access to your systems and accounts.

  3. Keep your software and operating systems up to date with the latest security patches and updates.

  4. Train your employees on best cybersecurity practices, such as how to spot phishing emails and avoid downloading suspicious attachments.

By taking these steps, you can help protect your organization from cyber-attacks and minimize the risk of data breaches.
